little_pumpkin_pie001 asked: I have a 1 yr old purebred labrador girl, named sky. 9 days I put her in a kennel, due to a family emergency situation, I had to leave the state.
They stay was only for 5 days.
4 days ago I picked sky up. She was all happy and bouncy when she saw me. After we arrived home she didnt wanted to come out of the car. I called her, tried everything but she didnt moved. I had to lift her out of the car, a 65lb labby. Then I realized she was limping. So I thought maybe she stepped into something on the way to the car when I picked her up. I checked her paws and almost got a heart attack. The padding of her paws were swollen, about double the normal size. The webbing in between her toes was open, bloody, I could see the raw meet.
When I picked her up I asked the kennel workers if they had any problems with her but they said she was fine. So I called them back and asked if she was limping there and they said no, they laughed at me, saying she was running to hard on the pavement.
I went to her vet immediately after I hung up with them. After the exam the vet told me sky had “chemical burns” due to the use of bleach in her kennel. He told me to call the kennel, tell them what was going on and to ask them to pay the bill.
Before I put her into the kennel I had her at the vet, just for a check up, making sure she was ok before I would leave her. And she had a clean bill of health.
On the way back home I dropped by the Kennel with sky. The Assistant Manager was there, I showed her the burns and the vet bill. All she said was to call back in the morning when the Manager is in,turned around, walked back to the office and locked the door!!So I called them the next morning just to get harrassed and abused by the Manager. He was calling me all kinds of names, saying they dont use bleach, I am a lyer etc.
Till today I have not been able to get hold of them. I contacted a lawyer but she said I cant sue in the State of TX, all I would get back is what I spent on sky. She said if the kennel doesnt pay she would write them a letter but it would cost more than what I would get back in money. Is there anything I can do?? I mean thats not right, sky isnt doing to good, she doesnt eat and they want to force feed her. I am so mad and confused. Does anyone have any idea what to do?
The lawyer said in the State of TX a dog is considered as “property”.
